Looking ahead to 2017 XC - Things look very bright for our 2017 XC season! As we pointed out at our Awards night last week, we have a very talented group of runners returning for the 2017 season. On the Girls side we have 11 of our top 12 returning, with 8 of those girls lettering varsity (Shannon, Bailey, Hope, Brooke, Lauren, Kailey Sammy, and Clara, earning letters). We should shoot to be one of the top 2 teams returning in our league and regional, and top 5 in the state for 2017. Our best state finish is a 5th place, something our girls have the ability to surpass next year. On the Boys side we have 10 of our top 18 returning from what was our best team ever in 2016. We have 7 returning lettermen (Chris, Derek, AJ, Carter, Ben (16:46 PR 2015), Wes, and Caleb) and 2 more (Carson and Saket), who were in the low 18's. Even though we graduated quite a few boys, our goals should shoot to be a top 5 team in state and top 2 in league. Our Region without a doubt will be the toughest in state, with Vista, Rampart, and RCHS looking like 3 of the top 5 teams in state! Now that we have become a top 10 team on both sides, our goal is to continue that trend (even shooting higher!), next year and beyond. To do that you will need to train consistently. That means competing in Track in the Spring. If your already planning to compete in another sport in the Spring, that's great, we encourage that! If your not, you will benefit from competing in Track. We know for some it's not as fun as XC, but the benefits of competing on a track help you become a better XC runner! If you look at the top 10 boys and girls at State XC, they all run track! Also, we know building a base of mileage over summer is very important in order to have a successful XC season. Summer running increases oxygen uptake, which leads to running economy, and strengthens muscles thus reducing injuries. Our 2016 team set the bar high, let's set the bar even higher in 2017!
